We love Squale here at Patina Nationale and you can easily see why when you look at this handsome diver from the iconic Swiss brand with strong Italian roots.

Squale has a rich military history that goes back decades and a quick flick through their back catalogue is a who’s who of divers and very important cases! That case shape with the crown at 4pm is legendary!

What we have here is something special, a watch made especially for the Comsubin, the Italian Navy Special Operations Unit. This collaboration between Squale and the Comsubin is not new, it has been going since the 1980’s and it is a fully legit modern military spec diver.

Only 500 pieces were ever made, with the first 80 pieces were reserved for the Comsubin Unit, the rest were then made available to the public and not surprisingly sold out very quickly. The Palombari Del Comsubin are the elite divers within the Italian navy, the Marina Militaire. They are part of the Gruppo Operativo Subacquei (GOS) the sub aquatic branch of the navy. A very small and highly trained team of tactical divers.

There is a lot to love here, whether that is the Full (Grade 5) Titanium case, the ceramic bezel, Superluminova dial or in my case the amazing Comsubin Camo canvas strap that was expressly requested by the unit and is made of the same fabric as the actual Comsubin Camo kit.

Add in the beautiful sunray blue dial,1200 metres water resistance, helium escape valve, date , and the Palombari del Comsubin Logo at 6 and you have one of the best modern mil spec divers of recent years. And let’s not forget this is a watch that is used by the Marina Militaire.
