Personal Opinion
The legendary Universal Geneve Polerouter! Whilst we tend to specialise in Military and Divers, we can’t say no to the classics!
And whether you’re a collector or a dealer there’s one name in watch design that always resonates, the legend that is Gerald Genta.
The man behind the AP Royal Oak, the Patek Phillipe Nautilus and the IWC Ingenieur, Genta revolutionised the watch industry with his iconic stainless steel sports watches, which are still today some of the most sought after watches in the world.
Before all of this apex watch design Genta worked with Universal Geneve and designed the Polerouter, the first version being released in 1954. Universal Geneve were the official watches of the SAS (Scandinavian Airline Systems) to commemorate their new route that went over the North Pole.
This beautiful version in a 35mm twisted lug case, capped in yellow gold, with the original black gloss gilt dial, has just started to tropicalise giving it a lovely warm finish. The iconic cross hairs on the dial, Dauphine hands and gorgeous gold printed text on the dial finish this off beautifully.
If you are now looking at this watch, you are probably aware of its history, this is a very nice honest example that is working perfectly. It comes on a brand new bespoke strap from the Strap Tailor.
Whoever gets this will not be disappointed. A True Icon!
