Is the Benrus Type 1 Class A the best military dive watch ever?

If it’s not number one it’s very close, perhaps only a Rolex Milsub or a Tornek Rayville could beat the history and iconic nature of this watch. Plus just look at it!

Peak Military dive watch heaven, and for me it really doesn’t get much better. The original Benrus Type 1s and IIs were produced from 1972 to 1980. It was made under a military specification of its own. The watch was designated CLASS A, which is essentially the highest classification awarded to military watches.

The Type 1 Class A dive watch was issued to members of US UDT, Seal Teams, Green Berets and special forces towards the end of the Vietnam conflict. These watches were never made available to the public, military use only.

Fast forward to 2020 and the re issue was released, and like with so many iconic and well loved watches, you always hope they do it justice.

No need to worry, they did a fantastic job and this is what a modern Benrus Type 1 CLASS A looks like, and I’m here for it. The iconic look hasn’t been lost, whether it’s the unmistakable sterile dial or the full military Caseback this one is a beauty.
