Personal Opinion
The legendary Fab Four 6bb Chronograph!
Sometimes when new stock arrives in you are genuinely blown away. This is one of those cases when both the Hamilton’s came in, this version and the Logo version Hamilton we also have for sale.
The Fab Four 6bb Chronograph consisted of 4 brands, Hamilton, CWC, Precista and Newmark. In the early 70’s the Ministry of Defence’s DEF – STAN (Defence Standardization) was altered in order to produce more commercially viable pieces for the military. In stepped the 4 brands that were responsible for these amazing chronographs for well over a decade.
All very similar in characteristics, 39mm asymmetric stainless steel case, black matte dial with luminous hands and markers. The only change was that you had 2 chronograph pushers rather than one (Lemania Monopusher) Add in the fact you have the ever reliable Valjoux 7733 manual movement and you have a winner.
The 7733 has a central Chronograph seconds, running seconds at 9 o’clock and a 30 minute counter at 3 o’clock.
The Hamilton is perhaps the most handsome and recognisable of the four, they also had the longest stretch of producing this reference and have an incredible military history too.
The watch we have for sale here was issued to the RAF in 1971 in the second year of its contract. It has the lesser seen sterile dial, which happened due to the fact they were sometimes issued or swapped depending on what was left available to use at that time, so they have become very desirable to collectors. It also has incredible patina on the dial and is by someway the best version we have ever offered, everything is original, even the hands which have been faithfully restored and filled by a master watchmaker who also serviced this watch. Just look at that beautiful dial!
It comes on a perfectly aged Phoenix nato in admiralty grey.
This is truly one of my favourite pieces we have offered in a while.
Whoever buys this will not be disappointed. Choose your weapon…….
