An iconic brand making a military chronograph for the Bundeswehr! What’s not to like!?

First things first, I love Sinn. I think as a brand it still flies under the radar as one of the great military watch brands, and maybe just maybe doesn’t get the love it deserves.

The German Bundeswehr was then at the time, the West German Special defence forces, and in 1967 the original Bundeswehr 1550 watches (made by Heuer) were created and issued to said forces. Then in 1980, Sinn founder Helmut Sinn purchased these watches from old Bundeswehr inventories. He rebranded them with Sinn and the reference then became the Sinn 155.

This is not the first recreation of the legendary original 155. In 2005 there was a special release for the Japanese market, with only 200 pieces released. This sold out very quickly. There second special addition came in 2008 for Manufactum. A German department store in Munich and Cologne, with only 272 pieces released. Again this sold out very quickly.

This latest creation we have here is from 2019, some 11 years later. This Sinn x The Rake and Revolution (2 iconic watch and lifestyle magazines) 155 Bundeswehr “ Dark Star.” Released in only 150 pieces which makes it the rarest of the 3.

It’s a truly fantastic watch using the same case, bezel and domed plexiglass as the vintage military versions. The hands and dial have been treated with specially coloured Super Luminova to perfectly match the vintage pieces, and the bezel has been given a subtle ghost effect to mimic a faded version. And finally a really nice touch, in place of the 3H Bundeswehr logo denoting tritium, it has been replaced by a very subtle black star that you can only see in direct light. A nod to the military history of this great brand.

Truly a gorgeous watch and sold out within hours of its initial release, but a chance for you to own it. It comes in fantastic condition and is a full set.
